2011 Keck Institute for Space Studies Postdoctoral Fellowship for International Students

The W. M. Keck Institute for Space Studies Postdoctoral Fellowship Program (Keck Institute Fellowship) is an annual series of fellowship awards to promising young researchers of any nationality whose research can contribute to the development of new planetary, Earth, and astrophysics space mission concepts and technology.

• Innovative Satellite Observations to Characterize the Cloudy Boundary Layer
• The First Billion Years
• Future Missions to Titan: Scientific and Engineering Challenges
• Monitoring Earth Surface Changes from Space
• Single Photon Counting Detectors
• Innovative Approaches to Exoplanet Spectra
• Quantifying the Sources and Sinks of Atmospheric CO2
• Innovative Approaches to Planetary Seismology
• New Directions in Robotic Exploration of Mars
• Large Space Structures
• Coherent Instrumentation for Cosmic Microwave Background Polarization Observations
• Climate Feedbacks and Future Remote Sensing Observations
• Shedding Light on the Nature of Dark Matter
• Mission Concepts for Accessing and Sampling High-Risk Terrains on Planetary Surfaces
• Innovative Concepts in IR/Submm Astronomy from Space

The duration of the fellowship is up to two years: an initial one-year appointment and one annual renewal that is contingent upon satisfactory performance.

Postdoctoral Fellowships
The purpose of this fellowship is to enable recent PhD recipients to pursue research related to the development of new planetary, Earth, and astrophysics space mission concepts and technology.

Eligibility
Eligible applicants are those who have received, or will have earned a PhD (in any discipline related to the Institute’s goals and programs) on or after January 1, 2008. Also eligible are current PhD students who will have fulfilled all requirements to receive a PhD before the start of the funding period (typically the beginning of September). (Eligible applications must include a letter of endorsement from a Caltech/Jet Propulsion Laboratory (JPL) postdoc sponsor who is associated with the Institute.)
